Parking becomes difficult and traffic jams are common. Cape May County's permanent population is about 100,000 on any summer weekend, that swells to 650,000. But the project has the backing of local officials, businessmen and rail advocates who say the train can help ease automobile congestion. Some residents don't relish that prospect, saying the train will produce harmful diesel fumes and irritating noises. "But first of all, we have to get people used to the fact that the trains are back." "It's not pie in the sky," said Tony Macrie, president and general manager of Cape May Seashore Lines. ![]()
